Care for Your Cricket Bat

Oil Lightly

If recommended by the manufacturer, apply a thin coat of raw linseed bat oil to exposed willow. Keep oil away from the splice, handle, stickers and covered surfaces. Never soak the bat.

Knock It In

Prepare your bat gradually with a bat mallet, following the manufacturer’s guidance. Gently round the edges; avoid striking the toe or edges directly. “Pre-knocked” bats may still need preparation.

Build Up to Match Play

Start with gentle throwdowns using an older, good-quality leather ball, then progress to net sessions. Avoid new balls and bowling machines until the bat is properly prepared.

Keep Dry & Inspect

Store in a cool, dry place away from heaters and hot cars. Let a damp bat dry naturally. Check regularly for cracks, loose grips and toe damage, and repair problems early.
